Growing Healthy Familes
The University of California CalFresh Nutrition Education Program provides evidenced-based nutrition education to food stamp recipients and other low-income individuals and families in collaboration with local partners. We act as a vital bridge between the learning and knowledge of the UC system and our community, tailoring the latest science, curriculum and information to the needs, culture and language of our low-income communities. Our goal is to improve the food choices of school children and their families through education and encouragement to make healthy choices and be more physically active.
Programs
We offer science-based curriculum to classroom teachers at qualifying schools at no cost that enhances state standards in math, science and literacy. Monthly supplemental materials are provided to support the curriculum and encourage teachers to provide encouragement and support to students to make healthy food and physical activity choices. Programs are also provided to promote family-centered and parent education on nutrition.
